This year (2024) St. Paul’s Episcopal Church did a Lenten study about the parables of Jesus, with Medina United Church of Christ Congregational and St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church. Description of the study below! Stop by this page next year to learn what Lent 2025 will hold.

Jesus was a skilled storyteller and perceptive teacher who used parables from everyday life to effectively convey his message and meaning. Life in first-century Palestine was very different from our world today, and many traditional interpretations of Jesus’ stories ignore this disparity and have often allowed anti-Semitism and misogyny to color their perspectives.

In this wise, entertaining, and educational series, Dr. Amy-Jill Levine offers a fresh, timely reinterpretation of Jesus’ narratives. In “Short Stories by Jesus,” she analyzes these “problems with parables,” taking readers back in time to understand how their original Jewish audience understood them.

You are invited to join three vibrant Medina churches in an ecumenical Lenten series Every Wednesday during Lent, beginning February 21st at 7:00pm. Come journey through some of the parables of Jesus, guided by the renowned scholar Dr. Amy-Jill Levine.
